Program Details

Montessori-Aligned Group Music

Baby & Caregiver

Music and movement from the very beginning! Come enjoy new songs together with your baby as they begin to learn the magic of music. This class, for non-walkers, will feature caregiver-led movement & physical touch, with songs and rhymes to continue to sing at home, and the very first exposure to instruments and props. Recommended age: under 15 months (up to under 18 months) w/ parent or caregiver Recommended abilities: for babies who are not yet walking independently Class length: 25 mins + 10 mins social time Location: Home Location Note: care-giver participation is mandatory for this class. Caregiver must be able to sit cross-legged, get up, move/walk while holding child. Please contact me directly for questions or accomodations. Structure: Welcome circle Cycle of songs incorporating caregiver-led movement & physical touch, visual stimulation, exposure to percussion instruments Closing Circle 10 min social time Note: this class does not work towards a culminating performance Concepts: Music: exposure to the sung voice, cadence & rhythm, and exploration of percussion instruments Movement: caregiver-led movement, introducing high/low, gather/scatter, tactile sensations Social/emotional: becoming comfortable with new faces, group dynamics

Toddler & Caregiver

Come discover the joy of music-making in this introductory toddler & care-giver class! Toddlers will explore group singing, child-sized percussion instruments, basic qualities of movement and more in this ACTIVE 25 minute class. Recommended age: 15 mos - 2.5 years w/ parent or caregiver Recommended abilities: Independent walking/moving Class length: 25 mins + 10 mins social time Location: Home Location & Studio Location Note: care-giver participation is mandatory for this class. Caregiver must be able to sit cross-legged, get up, and move with child. Structure: Welcome circle Cycle of songs involving movement, singing, percussion instruments, simple props Closing Circle Note: this class does not work towards a culminating performance Concepts: Music: start/stop, treating instruments with respect, intro to pitch (high/low), intro to tempo (fast/slow), invitation to sing along and match pitch. Movement: intro to body control, intro to qualities of movement, intro to levels of movement Social/emotional: Following simple instructions, group social dynamics

Preschool

Sing, move and play! Preschoolers are introduced to music and movement concepts through songs and games. Together we will explore pitch, tempo, and timbre, learn respect for instruments and each other, and of course, get up and move, move, move. Recommended age: 2.5 - 4 Recommended abilities: Ability to focus for short periods of time, follow instructions in a group setting Class length: 35 mins Location: Studio Location Structure: Opening circle Cycle of songs involving movement, singing, percussion instruments, props such as scarves, hula hoops, parachute Closing Circle Note: this class does not work towards a culminating performance Concepts: Music: start/stop, respect for instruments & other musicians, pitch (high, low & variables), tempo (fast, slow, variables), invitation to sing in a group setting, match pitch, and sing/play solo, intro to timbre (quality of sound) Movement: body control, qualities of movement, levels, intro to scatter/gather Social/emotional: Reinforcing following simple instructions, group dynamics (taking turns, being respectful and encouraging of others), intro to bravery & independence

Kinder

Explore the wonder of making music and moving together! Kinder kids learn new songs and musical games, get exposure to percussion instruments and build confidence as they sing and play solo and in a group. Musical concepts and creative movement are taught in this fun, active, collaborative class. Recommended age: 4 - 6 Recommended abilities: Ability to focus for short periods of time, follow instructions in a group setting Class length: 40 mins Location: Studio Location Structure: Opening circle Cycle of songs involving movement, singing, percussion instruments, props such as scarves, hula hoops, parachute Closing Circle Note: this class does not work towards a culminating performance Concepts: Music: start/stop, respect for instruments & other musicians, pitch (high, low & variables), tempo (fast, slow, variables), timbre (quality of sound), group & solo singing/playing, matching pitch, intro to improvisation & collaborative creation Movement: qualities of movement, levels, scatter/gather, solo & collaborative movement Social/emotional: Group dynamics (taking turns, being respectful and encouraging of others), intro to bravery & independence, intro to collaboration creation, intro to active listening

Recreational Group Music Theatre

Kinder

For ages: 4 - 6 Recommended abilities/interests: Ability to focus for short periods of time, follow instructions in a group setting, interest in singing, acting, dancing. No previous experience required. Class length: 45 mins Structure: Each class will feature: Physical warm-up & movement Vocal warm-up, group singing, learning age-appropriate music theatre songs Drama games & staging of musical numbers Note: this class will work toward a performance on the last day of class Concepts: Music: introduction to healthy singing techniques, pitch (high, low & variables), tempo (fast, slow, variables), group & solo singing, matching pitch. Movement: qualities of movement, levels, scatter/gather, solo & collaborative movement, dance technique & choreography taught by a professional choreographer Drama: intro to: improv, parts of the stage / stage directions, stage etiquette, character work, line memorization Social/emotional: Group dynamics (taking turns, being respectful and encouraging of others), intro to: bravery & independence, collaborative creation, active listening

Junior

For ages: 10 - 12 Recommended abilities/interests: Ability to focus for short periods of time, follow instructions in a group setting, interest in singing, acting, dancing. No previous experience required. Class length: 90 mins Structure: Each class will feature: Physical warm-up & movement Vocal warm-up, group singing, learning age-appropriate music theatre songs Drama games & staging of musical numbers Note: this class will work toward a performance on the last day of class Concepts: Music: introduction to healthy singing techniques, pitch (high, low & variables), tempo (fast, slow, variables), group & solo singing, matching pitch, diction, intro to singing in harmony. Movement: qualities of movement, levels, intro to Laban theory, solo & collaborative movement, dance technique & choreography taught by a professional choreographer Drama: intro to: improv, parts of the stage / stage directions, stage etiquette, character work, line memorization Social/emotional: Group dynamics (taking turns, being respectful and encouraging of others), bravery & independence, collaboration creation, active listening.
